Photo Posting Guidelines

You must be a registered member to post a photograph. You must be the author of the photos you post in the NundaFoto gallery. By posting a photo in the gallery, you agree to be bound by the terms of service.

What you may/may not post on NundaFoto

NundaFoto is dedicated exclusively to wild life, in its natural environment. You may not post a photo of an animal in captivity or in semi-captivity (this includes photos taken in zoos and parks), or any photo contrary to the philosophy of NundaFoto.

Please do not post photos of domesticated animals, especially if the scene does not take place in a natural environment (so, photos of your new kitty in the kitchen or your guinea pig are not welcomed on NundaFoto).

Don't forget that it is not necessary to travel to get good photos of wild life. Think about all these little birds in your garden in winter, roe deers, stags and other animals in the forest next to your house, and also all the insects and microscopic animals that macro photography enthusiasts are fond of.

Taxonomic Information

NundaFoto is not only a photography site, it is also a site devoted to wildlife. That's why we ask you to fill taxonomic information for each photo you send.

In alpha taxonomy, as the scientific classification of organisms, the system includes the following ranks: Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species. On NundaFoto, we ask you to specify the Order, the Family, the binomial name and the common (vernacular) name of the animal.

The scientific name, or binomial name of a species is formed by the combination of two terms: the first term is the genus name, and the second term the species.

For example, for the Gray Wolf, the genus is Canis (always capitalized) and the species is lupus (never capitalized), so the binomial name for the gray wolf is Canis lupus.

Another example with the Chamois: genus name Rupicapra, species rupicapra. The binomial name for the Chamois is Rupicapra rupicapra. Please note: Rupicapra pyreanica is the same genus, but not the same species as the second term is different: this is the Pyrenean Chamois.

These sites may help you:

  • Avibase, a complete database about all birds of the world
  • Oiseaux.net for birds
  • Fishbase, a Global Information System on Fishes
  • ITIS, a Taxonomic Information System
  • Tree of Life

If in spite of your researches, you still don't manage to identify precisely a animal or an insect, please feel free to get some help in the Identification section of the forum.

Photo format and size

Photographs uploaded to the NundaFoto gallery should be JPEG images with dimensions of at least 600x400 pixels. Maximum size allowed is 850x600 pixels and 250 KB; if your photo exceeds these limits, it will be resized to fit the maximum file size and/or dimensions.

Number of photos you may upload

As a NundaFoto member, you may post up to 7 photos per month. You can post 1 photo(s) without being required to write critiques on other members' photos. Past this number, you will have to write 10 critiques to be able to post another photo.

Photo series

You can send, in a single post, up to 5 photos on the same theme; this is what we call a "series". Also, we lay particular stress on the fact the photos must all have been taken in the same "shooting session".
